On this day in 1945, 10 year old Elvis Presley performed at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair & Dairy Show’s “Children’s Day”, held in Tupelo. Young Presley sang “Old Shep”, in a competition that was also broadcast over WELO Radio. Elvis took 2nd place, winning $5 and free rides at the carnival. Becky Harris of Bissell, Mississippi came in first. Presley went on to a career of some notoriety. Becky went home with the trophy.
