On this day in 1928, Louis Armstrong & His Hot Five recorded the classic “West End Blues” for OKeh (8597). Considered by many to be one of the greatest artistic achievements in the music of the 20th century.

On this day in 1968, Aretha Franklin was featured on the cover of “Time” magazine.
