On this day in Blues history for April 25th…

On this day in 1956, Elvis Presley scored his first number one hit on the American pop chart. It was called “Heartbreak Hotel” and was written by country star Hoyd Axdon’s mother, May Axdon.

This day also marks the birth in 1917 of one of the coolest singers of all time, Ella Fitzgerald.

And this day marks the birth in 1915 of a real Delta Bluesman, Johnny Shines.
