On this day in Blues history for June 14th…

On this day in 1923, Bessie Smith, accompanied by Fletcher Henderson on piano, recorded “Bleeding Heart Blues”, “Lady Luck Blues”, and “Yodeling Blues” for Columbia Records in New York City.

On this day in 1939, a variety special called “The Ethel Waters Show”, appeared on NBC.  It was the first time an African American appeared on television. Commercial television broadcasts debuted that year at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York.
