On this day in Blues history for March 8th…

Lucille Bogan was born in Mississippi and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. After she moved to Chicago between 1933 and 1935, she performed and recorded under the pseudonym Bessie Jackson and worked with pianist Walter Roland. Most of her songs were about the “seamy” side of life, like this one… “Skin Game Blues,” recorded in New York on this very day in 1935.
